Fresh From Our Experts

Mediacom is one of the cable internet giants and we appreciate its money-back guarantee, no ETFs, and unlimited data. However, I am personally not a fan of its relatively high starting price. If they are keeping such a premium price tag, they need to further work on their upload speeds to better support today’s generation of remote workers and content creators.

Xtream powered by Mediacom offers solid speeds, great performance, and 99.9% reliability. Its availability across 22 states makes it one of the most preferred ISPs. Add in the security suite and in-home WiFi, and you’ve got a strong deal here. The only thing we would like to see a change in is the equipment rental fee—it should either be lower or free, especially considering their already higher price point.

Speed Review

Xtream powered by Mediacom offers two internet plans with speeds of 300 Mbps and 1000 Mbps, catering to most household requirements. With these speeds, you can enjoy all internet activities like streaming, gaming, and remote work. However, their upload speeds of 20 Mbps and 50 Mbps, respectively may be slower for some users.

Internet 300 300 Mbps
Internet 1 Gig 1000 Mbps

Data Review

Xtream Powered by Mediacom offers unlimited data on its internet plans, making it an excellent choice for users who want to maximize their internet usage without worrying about data caps.

Consistency Review

For a cable internet provider, Xtream powered by Mediacom performs well in terms of speeds and latency. For gamers and streamers, latency or ping rate is a key concern. With Xtream Internet plans, the typical latency you get is 20 ms. This aspect can provide you with optimal performance—eliminating potential roadblocks during gaming and streaming sessions.

“In my experience, a 20 ms latency is ideal for cable internet. So, if you are a gamer and ping rate is one of your concerns, then rest assured, using Xtream powered by Mediacom Internet is going to be a smooth ride.”

Pricing Review

Xtream powered by Mediacom Internet plans start at $50/mo. for 300 Mbps, which, in our opinion is a bit on the higher end compared to some other options in the market. The highest plan price comes up to $65/mo. for 1 Gig speeds. Given such a high speed and the fact that the price stays locked for 2 years, it is safe to say that this plan offers solid value for money. However, there are a few extra charges to keep in mind, such as:

Additional Charges Cost Reasonable How to Avoid?
Data Overage $10 tick icon Subscribe to an unlimited data plan.
Late Payment Subjected to location tick icon Pay the fees on time.
Installation $75 tick icon Self-installation
Modem Rental $15 cross icon Purchase your own equipment.
Early Contract Termination $0 tick icon -

Bundling Review

Xtream powered by Mediacom allows you to bundle its Internet service with mobile and home phone services. By combining multiple services, you can save up to 30%, which, in our opinion, is a significant benefit. However, Xtream powered by Mediacom doesn’t offer an option to save money when bundling Internet with home phone service.

Perks Review

With every Xtream powered by Mediacom Internet plan, you get WiFi360pro with 1 eero WiFi unit and eero secure at no extra cost. This ensures reliable connectivity and basic security features. And if your residence size is larger, you can always rent out an additional eero device for $6/month and access features like wall-to-wall connectivity, parental controls, protection against malware, and advanced security.

“Xtream powered by Mediacom does an excellent job at providing its customers with amazing perks like eero WiFi units, eero secure, and bundling discounts. Considering that all of it can be availed for a fair, transparent price, this does seem like an appealing offer.”

Reputation Review

Great customer support, average speeds, and occasional performance issues—customers have mostly positive but somewhat mixed reviews about Xtream powered by Mediacom. This can also be seen in its American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) score of 61, which is decent but shows significant room for improvement. To get an even better idea, check out what customers are saying about the provider:

Mediacom doesn't work as well as it advertises, especially during peak hours. I've experienced an average packet loss of 12%, which goes to show that it's a bad internet company.

The wi-fi keeps disappearing like my ex-wife lately. I never had issues with it for the last year or so, but this month’s been agony. I wish it goes back to how it used to be.

As someone who had to switch from fiber to cable, I had a lot of my doubts with Mediacom services. But the services actually surprised me. For a cable internet, I have to say its not half bad.

Kristine Gibbs

I have been liking the speeds a lot lately and the wifi360 pro has quite literally changed the game for me. I’d totally recommend it to others especially if you can’t find a fiber connection in your area, go for Mediacom.

Ngl the speeds have been a bit down for the past one month but so far, Im impressed with how it has turned out for me. Plus, Mediacom support team is very efficient in getting things done.

Erwin Márquez

I hate data caps like anything. I don’t want my provider to impose any limits on me so I signed up for the 1 Gig plan. frankly, I’ve been enjoying it and it’s not even expensive. So if you are in for unlimited data then go for the 1 Gig plan.

“Xtream powered by Mediacom is a great cable internet provider, however, they might need to keep working on their network’s performance. Additionally, it would also make it one of the most competitive providers if the company improves customer support by ensuring efficient troubleshooting and query resolution.”
